Welcome from the Principal

Jewell Academy is an outstanding school. Ofsted visited the Academy in June 2015 and judged us to be Outstanding in every category, with no areas for improvement. We are a two form entry primary school that opened in September 2013. We currently have Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 pupils as well as preschool. Our Year 4 pupils will reach Year 6 in 2018, when we will be at full capacity, with 420 pupils.

The facilities at Jewell Academy are fantastic, including a studio hall for PE and Dance, 2 multi use games areas, large school field, allotment, designated Early Years unit and a school kitchen which cooks our school meals freshly on site.

Our pupils and parents feel a real sense of belonging and pride in being part of the Jewell Academy family. Our smart uniform immediately establishes each pupil’s sense of identity and the numerous opportunities we offer parents to engage in life at the Academy enable them to gain the skills and confidence to support their child’s learning.

I passionately believe that no child is average and every child is unique. Every child needs to feel special and by valuing each individual, pupil’s aspirations are raised, enabling them to reach their fullest potential. At Jewell Academy, we are able to achieve this as we are in the unique position of being a brand new Academy, where every pupil is known to all staff and all their needs are met in a small, welcoming environment.

At Jewell Academy, the curriculum is relevant, engaging and exciting for all learners. Literacy and Numeracy skills form the backbone of the curriculum, with Early Years being key to developing the skills needed for pupils to become lifelong learners. However, I do not believe that there is a ‘one fits all’ curriculum. It should value childhood as a period of wonder and imagination with open tasks, encourage independent learning and a culture where it is OK to make mistakes and learn from them.

Collaboration with other schools is important, to establish our identity in the community and give competitive opportunities to all the children. We are proud to be part of a cluster of 7 local schools as well as part of the wider AAT team of primary academies in Banbury and West London. We work particularly closely with Ocean Academy Poole which opened in September 2015 for Years 3 - 6 and Magna Academy Poole, an oustanding Aspirations Academy for 11 - 18 year olds. Secondary staff and pupils often support our curriculum by hosting special subject days such as Science, P.E. and Art.

Our website aims to give you a flavour of life at the Academy but the best way to find out what we’re about is to arrange a visit. We are always happy to give tours and discuss the needs of your child with you on an individual basis, so please make an appointment via the office and I look forward to meeting you personally.
