Aspiration Mosaics

Everyone at Jewell academy has loved working together on our Aspiration mosaics with the artist David Bowers. All the children in Reception have participated in creating their own part of the mosaic. You can see the masterpieces up on the playground wall and on the floor of the entrance to the school. This will soon be a lovely new waiting area for parents and carers… so watch this space! We really do have a sense of accomplishment. Have a look at our work.

Beauty and the Beast pantomime

The children and teachers were very lucky to watch the talented actors perform the classic ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at school. Take a look.

The Aliens have landed….

Watch out there has been a crash landing in our garden and parts of the alien spaceship have been left in our garden! We came to school on a cold and frosty morning to find footprints, part of a spaceship and lots of clues to explore. We have had letters and clues from our new alien friends. The children have had great fun in designing rocket boosters, writing letters and being investigators! We then moved on to learning about planets and the children loved learning about space through our space songs! Take a look at all our evidence.

E-safety talk

The children in Reception have recently had a talk all about how to stay safe online. We designed our own safety posters at school. Please talk to your child about this event.

Just after Christmas we read the fabulous story ‘Stickman’ and looked at how the story is made up with a beginning, middle and the end. We then focused on what a character was with a focus on Stickman’s thoughts and feelings.  We then went outside to make our own stickman character to help us to retell the story. Look at how realistic our Stickmen look here.

Science boffins!

Science week was great fun! The science boffins came to visit us and we all had the opportunity to make our own slime and launch rockets. All the children experienced many different science experiments with all the different teachers across the whole of Jewell Academy. We loved exploring the different ways things work! Have a look here.

Forest School’s Adventure

The children have had a fantastic time exploring our new forest school’s area. We all put our hats, gloves, wellies and coats on and ventured out into the colder climate to explore our forest school’s area. After looking at the well know Artist ‘Andy Goldsworthy’, we explored his work by creating our own master pieces. First of all, we collected unusually shaped leaves and sticks. We then used the natural objects that we found to create our own pieces of art. We all had great fun! Take a look at our pictures.

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome to Turtle and Sharks Class! We hope you all had a fantastic summer, the children were very excited to tell us about all of the fun things they got up to!

Miss Eagles and Mrs Kuhr have really enjoyed getting to know all of your wonderful children these past few weeks and are really looking forward to the fun filled year ahead. We were also very impressed with how confidently the children came into school, how smart they all looked, and their brilliant behaviour.

Just a few reminders; every child must bring a named water bottle, wellies and a coat to school please. The children will also be given their new reading books very shortly. We would like to encourage you to read with your child at home as much as possible. Even if the book has no words there are always pictures to discuss and questions to prompt your child’s own ideas and thoughts during the story. A curriculum newsletter will also be sent out each half term to tell you important news and give you information about what we will be learning.

If you ever have any concerns or worries, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are on the door in the mornings and we can arrange an appointment for after school when we will have more time to discuss any issues.

Thank you for your continued support.

Pirate visit

On Monday 12th September both the reception classes noticed that some strange items had been left in our garden! There was lots of treasure, a flag and plenty of clues. The children were then given a letter from the pirates and a gift. The gift they sent us was the story, ‘Pirates love underpants’ we retold the story altogether. This book was really funny and all the children had to search for the golden pants that the pirates had left behind! We have completed lots of challenges these past few weeks around our environment. Sorting animals, counting treasure and acting out being pirates in our very own pirate boat.

We had to sort the animals into the hoops. We talked about animals that live under the sea and those that don’t! We also explored the treasure using our magnifying glasses.

We made our own pirate ship to sail the seas!

Our very own class toy Mr Turtle and Shark have also had exciting adventures at the weekend with some of the children. Our class toy always like to go home with someone who has tried particularly hard at school and who is our Jewell of the Week child.
