Bear Hunt

On Monday 14th September Year 1 read the book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen. In the afternoon a letter was delivered to Starfish class. It was an invitation from a bear who wanted the children to follow several clues to find his location on the school grounds. The children used their knowledge of positional language to decipher the clues and find the bear who was asleep in Jewell Academy’s new forest school area. As a reward for their endeavours the bear read the children a story before returning into the woods. See here.

Moors Valley

This week we visited Moors Valley Country Park and Forest. We got off the mini bus and headed to the visitor centre where we picked up our guide maps and compasses. We then headed off to begin the play trail where we used our map skills to follow the paths through the forest. The children had lots of fun exploring the different stations that included the snake pit, crocodile crossing and spider’s web. After a really long walk the children moved back through the forest where they bumped into none other than the Gruffalo himself. We all had a lovely picnic together before returning to school. Well done to all the Dolphins for their excellent behaviour! Take a peek here.

Build A Bear Trip

On Tuesday 27th September Year 1 visited Build a Bear in Bournemouth. We chose our class  bear and gave him a name. Dolphin’s bear is called “Fluffy,” and the Starfish bear is “Max.” The children then had the chance to make a wish for this school year and put a heart inside the bear. We then chose a lovely school uniform for the bear and accessorised him with some very smart glasses. Each week a child will be chosen to take the bear home on a Friday for the weekend. Max and Fluffy can then be returned on Monday with a diary detailing his weekend adventures. Our Year 1 children behaved impeccably throughout the trip and were a credit to the school! Meet Fluffy here.

Dear Parents/carers

Welcome to Dolphin class!!!

Mr.Kopfli and Miss.Kerley were so impressed with how all the children arrived at school yesterday looking so smart and ready to learn. We are looking forward to a fun packed year where our children develop their love of learning and enjoyment of school still further.

Just a few reminders-every child must bring a named water bottle and PE kit into school by Monday. PE lessons will start from Tuesday. The children will be given their new reading books next week and we encourage you to read as much as possible with your child at home. A curriculum newsletter will also be sent out next week explaining this half term’s learning.

If you ever have any concerns or worries please do not hesitate to contact us. We are on the door in the mornings and we can arrange an appointment for after school when we will have more time to discuss any issues.

Thank you for your continued support
