Science

Science at Jewell is taught in both science-focussed units (such as habitats, forces, and rocks and fossils) as well as ongoing lines of enquiry; plants, weather and the changing seasons. We take every opportunity to allow our pupils to work scientifically through carrying out observations and investigations as well as performing tests and using scientific equipment. A range of resources and teaching strategies are employed to make science learning fun and exciting. We aim to make science as hands on as possible for our learners and have a number of links with local scientific organisations such as the local Raptor Centre, Planetarium and Dorset Scrapstore. Activities with organisations such as these help to fully engage our pupils and create a love of the subject. Each year in the Autumn we hold our annual Science Week which gives our children the chance to participate in a range of exciting experiments with different teachers across the school. Jewell Academy’s commitment to science has seen us earn the Primary Science Quality Mark Bronze Award.
