North West Farm

Today we visited a local farm called North West farm in the village of Winterbourne Abbas. It was such a fun packed day filled with really interesting activities.  First, we looked at some river wildlife and found tadpoles, water beetles and spiders.  Then, we were allowed to pet some baby lambs which were so cute! After that, we carded some sheep wool and learned how to spin the wool into yarn. Next, we had our lunch in the sunshine, it was so beautiful.  Later on, we met  a famer who operated all of the farm machinery. Some of the tractors were huge, an actual child could stand inside of one of the tyres! Then, we met another farmer who sowed all of the grain seeds such as barley, oats and wheat.  He showed us how to hand grind the grains, it was very hard work! Finally, we met a coffee bean distributer who hires out a barn at the farm so he is able to roast his coffee beans.  He buys raw coffee beans from special locations along the tropics and then roasts the beans to sell to cafes and restaurants.  It was such an amazing day! Thank you to North West farm, especially JJ and Becks who allowed this visit to happen and the Dorset show.  Click here for photos

Egyptian Cinderella Production

This week we put on a production of the Egyptian Cinderella.  We were so excited but a little bit nervous too.  We have loved every moment of this production, including making our costumes and props.  On the Monday, the whole school came to watch us during our dress rehearsal whereas the parents came to see us on Wednesday and Thursday.  It was a huge success.  If you would like to purchase a DVD please see the office.

Today an art specialist came to our school to deliver Stone Age workshop.  We made the most amazing Stone Age scenes using pastels.  We also created a drama performance based on ‘Stone Age Boy’.  We also wrote some lyrics and sang the song as part of the performance.  It was really awesome.  Miss Thommes was an incredible teacher and we loved listening to her sing. Thank you Miss Thommes. Click here to see our photographs.

This afternoon Professor Tim from Bournemouth University came to our school to talk about Stonehenge. It was really interesting.  He told us how long ago Stonehenge was built and gave us possible reasons of why it was built.  Afterwards, we went out to the school field and we built a miniature version of Stonehenge using bricks.  We really enjoyed listening to Professor Tim, he was so knowledgeable and we felt quite privileged to have a local archaeologist visit our school. This morning we went on a nature scavenger hunt through Burley wood in the New Forest. It was such a beautiful morning. We almost found everything on our nature sheet. The only item we couldn’t find was a seed pod. We imagined what it would be like to live in a forest, just like Robin Hood. We hope you like our photographs. Please click here.Welcome to Year 3!
