Welcome to Summer Term 2

Welcome back to the second half of the Summer term – and our final , glorious half term of the year.

Ahead of us is a great, fun filled half term for us all to enjoy. Our topic is ‘Down on the Farm’, with a focus on Science .We will be looking closely at where our food comes from as well as learning about different classifications of animals. What makes a mammal different from a bird? Time to find out…

Art will give us the chance to experiment with and learn all about texture and how to use it to create stunning works of art. We will be taking inspiration from our topic to fire up our imaginations.

We will start off with a visit in the beautiful sunshine to our school garden to look at the plants growing, possibly spot some animals and prepare to grow some of our own plants and vegetables through the term. We will also be visiting Bournemouth’s ‘Pizza Express’ restaurant to see how food gets used, and how it ends up on our plate. This promises to be a very yummy experience.

To support our work in class, we will be reading ‘Farmer Duck’, written by Martin Waddell and Helen Oxbury. This will be used to inspire our writing in class and to look further into our topic.

If you are yet to sign up to Marvellous Me, please come to the office to see how to do this. We are using this app alot to send messages and awards for your children straight to your phone.

Reading at home continues to be an important part of supporting your child, Dora the Reading Explorer has been enjoying her visits to people’s homes and will continue to come home with children in the last term. We will also continue with Book and Breakfast every Wednesday morning at 8.15am, as well as Friday lunchtime reading club.

The second week of June sees our keenly anticipated Phonics Screening test take place in school. We are delivering this in the mornings and ensuring a calm, stress free experience for all our children. Please continue to support them as much as you can to be ready for this.

Spelling books will continue to be sent home this half term. We have started our weekly spelling checks, and will be continuing these.

If you have any concerns, please speak to your child’s class teacher on the door or make an appointment at the office.

We are looking forward to an exciting and busy term ahead – keep an eye out for further details on our sports days and end of term news!
