Spring 1

Great to see all the children back at school today looking smart and ready to learn.

This half terms learning will focus on…

This term in English we will be reading Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach and Revolting Recipes. We will be writing our very own cookery books, stories and poems based around some of the ideas from these texts.

In Maths we will be challenging the children with further multiplication and division problems before moving on to the topic of money where children will add and subtract money as well as give change. We will also be learning to measure length, weight and capacity.

This half term’s learning has a science focus. Children will identify that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition, and that they cannot make their own food; they get nutrition from what they eat. They will also learn about how animals and humans have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement.

Autumn 2

This half term our learning will involve…

In English we are writing non-fiction booklets documenting daily life during the Stone Age. We will also be writing our own narrative based on the book, “UG: Boy Genius of the Stone Age.”

In maths we are covering the Year 3 curriculum topics of multiplication and division focusing on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. In Science we are exploring rocks and fossils.

In history we will be learning about the different periods of the Stone Age and how the world changed from prehistoric times up until the Iron Age. To support our learning Year 3 will be visiting Hengistbury Head as well as taking part in a Stone Age workshop.

Stone Age Workshop

Today year 3 took part in an amazing workshop with Arts2Educate where they created Stone Age art, used drama to act out a Stone Age scene and composed, practiced and performed their own unique Stone Age song.

Hengistbury Head visit

Today our children visited Hengistbury Head where the local rangers explained the Iron Age history of the site. We then had time to explore the artefacts before completing a quiz finding answers about the Stone Age in different places around the visitor centre.

AFCB Workshop

Today we had a fantastic workshop with AFCB Community Trust focusing on developing team work and collaboration skills.
